Description

Summary:  The Shipping / Receiving Operator & Clerk is responsible for loading and unloading raw materials and finished goods, supplying raw materials to production lines, and staging raw material and finished goods. This position works in conjunction with the Logistics Manager to create and manage the shipping schedule, properly receive and ship materials, and report shipping and receiving information to internal and external customers.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Other Duties may be assigned.

  1. Safety / Environmental
    1. Forklift
      1. Operates forklift at a safe speed.
    2. Materials / Product Storage
      1. Stores materials/product in a safe manner.  Paying close attention to stack heights and material placement as to avoid creating blind spots and leaning stacks that could potential fall and cause damage or personal injury.
    3. Keeps truck drivers out of loading/unloading area while forklifts are in use.  If it is necessary for a truck driver to come into the loading/unloading area, all forklift movements should stop.  In rare cases truck drivers may need to be in the area while forklift activity is taking place.  Make sure all forklift operators are aware of this necessity and minimize these events as much as possible.
    4. Brings all safety / environmental concerns to the attention of the Warehouse Manager and/or the appropriate department manager immediately.
  2. Receiving / Shipping
    1. Follows all work instructions outlined in QWI-1 (Shipping) and QWI-2 (receiving) and all other applicable plant policies and procedures.
  3. Loading and Unloading Trucks
    1. Loads and unloads trucks based upon the Shipping / Receiving Schedule maintained by the Logistics Manager.  Trucks arriving early or unscheduled should be loaded/unloaded as soon as time permits.
  4. Warehouse Organization
    1. Maintains a neat and organized warehouse.
    2. Works closely with inventory control and other shipping employees.
    3. Performs inventory counts as needed.
    4. Assists in reconciliation of inventory discrepancies.
    5. Disposes of waste materials properly.
  5. Production Set-Up Procedures/Processes
    1. Production Staging – Reads, interprets and follows the production schedule.
      1. Stages materials in designated areas according to their production line.
      2. Obtains raw materials from warehousing area.  Pulls for use all partials (rolls of labels, boxes of caps, pallets of boxes/containers, chemical drums/totes, etc.) first.
      3. Pulls amounts in accordance with the production schedule.  Verifying item numbers against the bill of materials for that run.  Incorrect materials supplied causes production defects.  Too many materials will overcrowd: too few will stop production.  Immediately notifies Warehouse Manager if quantities needed for production are not available.
      4. If staging area is limited, confers with the Warehouse Manager for another course of action.
  6. Production Returns
    1. Returns unused raw materials, packaging supplies, pallets, etc. to warehouse or proper storage are
      1. Exams materials, verify lot numbers, weigh partials, re-label materials as needed, and wrap.
  7. Finished Goods
    1. Returns finished goods to warehouse and ensure each pallet is wrapped.  Verifies pallet summaries and paperwork and report discrepancies to the Warehouse Manager. 

 

  1. EVO Reports Review
    1. Working in conjunction with the Logistics Manager reviews the following reports daily.
      1. Open Sales Orders
      2. Open Purchase Orders
      3. Available to Ship
  2. Other Duties / Responsibilities
    1. Assist with maintaining and updating the shipping / receiving schedule.
    2. Maintains relationship with trucking dispatchers.
    3. Files paperwork on a daily basis.
    4. Supplies Warehouse Manager with information regarding scheduled shipments and receipts.
    5. Assist with inventory control as needed / requested.
    6. Assumes duties / responsibilities of Logistics Manager in their absence.

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Shipping/Receiving Operators may be responsible for assisting with training and supervision of temporary or new employees.

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or GED.   Minimum Georgia Work Key Scores required: Locating Information: 5, Reading for Information: 4, Applied Mathematics: 3
