CJB Applied Technologies is a sister company of CJB Industries.  Both are locally owned and operated in Valdosta, GA.  We are looking for a specific skill set for this particular Lab Tech position - we welcome all applications that meet our requirements, however, we will be giving preference to applicants with Fermentation experience.

Summary:
  The Laboratory Technician for CJB Applied Technologies will function as part of the CAT team to strive to meet the goals of CAT projects. The Technician is responsible for safely executing laboratory scale formulation and fermentation experiments, perform standardized tests on samples, thoroughly document results, and recommend experiments to meet project goals. Technician will need to be able to troubleshoot and fix equipment problems, source raw materials for experiments, and help write experimental protocols with supervisory input. The Technician will have responsibility for laboratory housekeeping and following proper safety requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Other Duties may be assigned.

  1. Make calculations and write protocols for laboratory experiments
  2. Liaison with Health, Safety, and Environmental resources to identify safety requirements for each project, wear required PPE and follow designated safety procedures
  3. Execute protocols for laboratory experiments for formulation/process development projects and for fermentation projects
  4. Perform analytical and physical tests to access results of laboratory experiments and document results.
  5. Interpret results of laboratory experiments against project goals and recommend path forward
  6. Troubleshoot equipment problems and identify effective solutions.
  7. Investigate options for raw materials and equipment for experiments, identify sources and purchase
  8. Review scientific literature related to projects and recommend experimental approaches
  9. Maintain high level of housekeeping in laboratory
  10. Effectively use Excel, Outlook, and Word

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Lab technicians may be responsible for assisting with training and supervision of temporary or new employees.

Qualification requirements: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have good teamwork and communication skills, and be able to perform each listed Essential Duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:

BS Chemistry or Chemistry related degree, or comparable experience.  Prefer experience with fermentation.  Work Ready Test required.  Minimum Scores: Graphic Literacy: 5, Applied Mathematics: 6, Workplace Documents: 6

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, interpret technical information. Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and visitors.

Mathematical Skills:

Calculus 1 and Basic Statistics is recommended.  Other math courses will be considered.  Ability to interpret graphs.  Ability to read and interpret scales.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to perform duties with awareness of safety requirements. Wear necessary protective equipment as needed (respirator, chemical resistant suit, gloves, safety glasses). Willing to work with possibly hazardous chemicals (while using proper protective equipment).

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the designated supervisor or manager.
