Job Description:

Summary:  The Senior Formulation Chemist’s foremost responsibilities are:

  1. Assume primary responsibility for successfully completing CAT projects that require expertise in formulation chemistry and process development.
  2. Maintain positive relationships with CAT customers by providing valuable insight, services and successfully fulfilling commitments.
  3. Enhance the efficiency and productivity of the existing CAT team by providing positive interactions that help find creative solutions to a challenging workload
  4. CJB’s Values or “RITES” are an important part of the company, and the Senior Formulation Chemist is expected to be a leader who demonstrates these values as a foundation. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Other Duties may be assigned.

  1. Participate in technical meetings with existing and potential new customers.  Gain and maintain a clear understanding of customer projects, deliverables, timelines and budgets.
  2. Help generate project plans and quotes for new project opportunities.
  3. Generate specifications and test methods for new projects that adequately address requirements of the finished product and confirm them with customer.
  4. Participate in safety reviews for new projects and safety audits.
  5. Follow required safety protocols to ensure no OSHA reportable accidents or injuries.
  6. Generate experimental protocols and conduct laboratory scale formulation/process development experiments for typical agricultural chemical and biological formulation types including suspension concentrates, emulsifiable concentrates, water-based solutions, extruded water dispersible granules, spray-dried water dispersible granules, wettable powders, and suspo-emulsions. 
  7. Generate protocols for pilot scale (from 30 to 400-gallon batches) tests.
  8. Plan and manage work schedule to maximize productivity and meet customer commitments
  9. Manage inventory of required equipment and supplies to minimize lost time due to delays based on equipment or supplies availability.
  10. Conduct patent searches and technical literature searches to gather information to expedite completion of customer projects.
  11. Generate clear and accurate project reports and review them with customer.
  12. Dispose of waste materials properly.
  13. Be available to work extended hours or alternate schedules, if required.
  14. Be available to travel if required (estimated at 2 to 4 trips per year.)

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum B.S. degree in chemistry or related science field and a minimum of 10 years of experience in formulations and process development. Georgia Work Keys Assessment required.

 

Computer Skills:

Competent with Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS Office software. 

 

Language Skills:

Ability to create, read, analyze, and interpret technical literature, patents, and MSDS. Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, customers, vendors, and visitors.

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to interpret graphs, statistics, charts, production and quality data.  Ability to read and interpret scales, pressures, flows, and other process instruments and data.

  • Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and ERP systems and other relational databases.

 

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated quarterly by the designated supervisor or manager.
